Big ol’ weed that seems to border on a tree grows in the alley behind my garage. I clip it down to ground level but it inevitably comes back. What should I spray/douse it in after cutting?

Gasoline on a rag then squeeze cut stem with it.

Cut it, and then slowly pour boiling water onto the remaining roots.

I would cut it and use a foam brush to apply brush + stump killer to the open wounds. It won’t kill the tree, don’t worry, but it should help keep this thing down

  4. Do the leaves look the same as the tree? If not then, Cut it then spray brush killer on the stumps. If they look the same you could still do that but you could kill/damage the tree as well depending on the product you use (don’t use Tordon unless you want the tree to die).

Or dig down and see if you can find the roots and then yank that bad boy out.

Looks like a Zelkova seedling, such a pain in the ass to get rid of. I spot spray them with 2,4 d

OP here. To clarify, there is not a tree immediately nearby that is in danger. This damn thing just has a hefty base and, I presume, has established roots. Would love to eradicate it by any reasonable means.

I’d spray it with something like Roundup, let it die and then cut it down.

Water it with 80% vinegar solution for a couple of weeks

Looks like an elm tree. Dig out the tap root.

Go biblical on it … Salt. Nothing will ever grow there again.

Cut it down. Use Tordon RTU on the stump.

  12. Cut it off low to the ground. Paint the stump with tordon stump killer.

  13. Clip it and paint the cut edge with stump killer.

Off bug spray. I haven’t met a plant it wouldn’t kill.

Easy! Get into a squatted stance with your weight on the balls of your feet, line it up between 10 & 2, use both hands and grab it firmly at the base, pull hard in an upward motion, and yank the damn thing out of the ground!

In this order of preferable action.

    1) dig it up at the roots.

    2) cut it and use stump killer on the rest.

    3) this is what I would do if it’s deep and or entangled. Cut it at ground level. Dig a little hole around the base. Fill the hole with salt. Grab a gallon of vinegar and make a vinegar salt water pond around it. Stick cutters into bottom of hole and cut again. Bury it.

  18. Remove the bricks and completely uproot the plants inside.
